This flagship series brings together Parliamentarians with experts in science and engineering, showcasing outstanding Canadian research accomplishments. Its purpose is to provide unbiased insight into topical scientific issues, within a non-partisan forum. This prestigious forum represents a unique opportunity for scientists to communicate important findings to a distinguished and influential audience.

The series is organized by PAGSE, an umbrella group of 25 + science and engineering organizations operating under the auspices of the Royal Society, and is supported by NSERC.

Come and learn how a nationwide research initiative is making Canada a leader in the development of systems that can perceive their own environments, reason, take action and dramatically extend human capabilities for many specialized tasks. Meet some of the award-winning products of this private-sectorBuniversity collaboration (including a robot that performs knee surgery and an intelligent system that can feel and touch!). Demonstrations will run from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.

Hear Dr. Pierre Bélanger, Vice-Principal of Research at McGill university present a bilingual overview of the major advances in intelligent systems research in Canada, and the impact they are already having on the Canadian economy. An electrical engineer internationally recognized for his research in the robotics field, Dr. Bélanger is a Director of PRECARN Associates Inc., a national, industry-led consortium conducting research in this area, and a founding member of the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems, a federal Network of Centres of Excellence supported by NSERC and PRECARN.
