DESCRIPTION:Dr. Sophie D’Amours: Green forests\, green dollars: rebuilding Canada’s forest products industry leadership through innovation \nInnovation and knowledge are the centerpieces of a remarkable transformation of Canada’s forest products industry. The old vision of exporting logs and pulp is being swept away by a new paradigm of sustainable forest management\, innovative and value-added products\,\nintegrated value chains and multi-company\, multi-sectoral partnerships. Few people are more informed about the technologies that are shaping these changes than Université Laval industrial engineer Sophie D’Amours. Come and learn how she and her colleagues and partners now collaborate to solve challenges holistically and position the industry as a global leader in the growing renewable energy and biomaterials economy. D’Amours holds both a senior Canada Research Chair and an NSERC Industrial Research Chair. She is the scientific director of the NSERC Strategic Network Grant on Value Chain Optimization and the former director of FORAC (De la FORêt Au Client)—a highly successful research consortium that she built at Université Laval. FORAC has evolved to engage numerous partners from the forest product industry\, the high-technology sector\, and both public and private organizations. In recognition of the respect that she has earned\, both in industry and academia\, she was recently named Chair of the Board of Directors\, of le Centre de recherche industrielle du Québec\, as well as Vice-Dean\, Research and Development\, in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Université Laval. \nDr. Sophie D’Amours: Des forêts en santé\, une économie en santé : redonner au Canada son titre de chef de file de l’industrie des produits forestiers grâce à l’innovation \nL’innovation et le savoir sont au cœur d’une importante transformation de l’industrie canadienne des produits forestiers. L’ancienne vision de l’industrie qui se résumait à l’exportation de billes et de pâte de bois est supplantée par un nouveau paradigme qui comprend la gestion durable des forêts\, des produits innovateurs à valeur ajoutée et faible empreinte environnementale\, des chaînes de valeur intégrées et des partenariats multisectoriels auxquels participent plusieurs entreprises. Sophie D’Amours\, ingénieure industrielle de l’Université Laval\, est une des personnes qui en sait le plus sur les technologies qui marquent cette transformation. Venez vous renseigner sur la manière dont elle collabore avec ses collègues et ses partenaires afin de relever les défis de cette transformation au moyen d’une approche globale et de positionner l’industrie forestière canadienne en tant que chef de file mondial dans l’économie des biomatériaux et de l’énergie renouvelable. Mme D’Amours est titulaire principale d’une chaire de recherche du Canada ainsi que titulaire d’une chaire de recherche industrielle du CRSNG. Elle est directrice scientifique du Réseau stratégique du CRSNG sur l’optimisation de la chaîne de valeur\, et a été directrice de FORAC (de la FORêt Au Client)\, un consortium de recherche très fructueux qu’elle a établi à l’Université Laval. FORAC a évolué au fil des ans\, et compte maintenant sur la participation de divers partenaires de l’industrie des produits forestiers\, du secteur de la haute technologie\, et des secteurs public et privé. En reconnaissance du respect qu’elle a mérité dans le secteur industriel et dans le milieu universitaire\, elle a récemment été nommée présidente du conseil d’administration du Centre de recherche industrielle du Québec\, ainsi que vice-doyenne à la recherche et au développement de la Faculté des sciences et de génie de l’Université Laval.
