These are all the results of recent and extraordinary progress in the development of miniature laboratories (\u201clabs on chips\u201d). With their capacity to simultaneously perform huge numbers of highly-controlled, tiny experiments, these devices have turbocharged the pace of discovery and innovation, and changed the way that Professor Kumacheva and many other scientists work. In her talk, she will speak about how she uses these powerful new tools, what this means for science, and the larger benefits for society. A professor at the University of Toronto since 1996, Dr. Eugenia Kumacheva leads one of Canada\u2019s most active, advanced chemistry groups. Her interests range from polymer materials science, nanoscience and molecular self-assembly to microfluidics and studies of carbon dioxide in liquid environments. Appointed a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in 2006, she has received numerous awards and accolades including, most recently, a Killam Research Fellowship and, in 2008, L\u2019Or\u00e9al-UNESCO \u201cWomen in Science\u201d Prize. Last year, she returned as a Visiting Professor to Moscow State University, where she had worked following her PhD studies at the Russia Academy of Science. L\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, elle est retourn\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00c9tat de Moscou, \u00e0 titre de professeure invit\u00e9e, o\u00f9 elle avait travaill\u00e9 apr\u00e8s avoir effectu\u00e9 ses \u00e9tudes au doctorat \u00e0 l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie des sciences de la Russie.
