Anne Naeth\, University of Alberta \nAs the human population increases\, it urgently requires access to affordable\, reliable\, sustainable\, and modern energy. Yet the land base that can provide for that energy and other life requirements is shrinking\, creating a global challenge. Sustainable energy requires environmental responsibility\, whether the source of energy generation is renewable or nonrenewable. Energy generation that impacts ecosystem function requires action such as land reclamation to return environments to a functional level. Research is helping our society transition to new energy technologies\, new ways of relating to energy\, and new land reclamation technologies for current\, future\, and legacy disturbances. Dr Naeth will discuss how the nexus of land reclamation and energy systems is critical to shaping our environmental future. \nDr M Anne Naeth is a Professor of Land Reclamation and Restoration Ecology at the University of Alberta. She is Director of the Energy Systems Signature Area\, Future Energy Systems Research Program\, and Land Reclamation International Graduate School (LRIGS). She is internationally recognized for her land reclamation research. Her extensively published research has led to policy changes benefiting the environment and industry. She has received numerous awards recognizing her outstanding scholarship\, teaching and community service\, including the Canadian Land Reclamation Association Noranda Award\, 18 Faculty Teacher of the Year awards\, the prestigious 3M Fellowship\, and University Cup. With the first University of Alberta NSERC CREATE grant she established LRIGS\, the first school of its kind in the world for multidisciplinary training and professional development of land  reclamation students. \n  \nSystèmes énergétiques et réhabilitation des terres: un impératif environnemental \nCliquez ici pour voir la présentation.  \nLe Dr. M. Pourtant\, les ressources terrestres qui peuvent fournir cette énergie ainsi que d’autres besoins vitaux s’amenuisent\, ce qui cause de nouveaux défits à l’échelle mondiale. La production d’énergie durable implique une responsabilité environnementale\, quel que soit le caractère renouvelable ou non de cette ressource. La production d’énergie qui a un impact sur la fonction des écosystèmes nécessite des actions telles que la réhabilitation des terres pour restaurer ces écosystèmes. La recherche aide notre société à faire la transition vers de nouvelles technologies énergétiques tout en changeant notre relation avec les formes d’énergie en considérant les impacts et les possibilités de réhabilitation des terres pour adresser les perturbations actuelles\, futures et passées. Le Dr Naeth expliquera comment le lien entre la réhabilitation des terres et les systèmes énergétiques est essentiel pour façonner notre avenir environnemental. \nLe Dr M Anne Naeth est professeur d’écologie de la réhabilitation et de la restauration des terres à l’Université de l’Alberta.
