DESCRIPTION:Click here to view the presentation. \nDr. Elena Bennett\, McGill University  \nSeeds of a Better Anthropocene  \nCreating a sustainable and just future will require a major shift in how humans live in\, and interact with\, the Earth system. But how this shift will take place and the pathways it will follow\, remain vague. Further\, visions of sustainable futures differ widely. Inspirational visions can be a key component of transformations to sustainability\, helping to shape the very reality that they forecast. But thus far\, the global change community has produced few positive visions of more desirable\, equitable\, and sustainable futures for society and nature\, or how these might be achieved. How can we think about a better future\, how can we measure it\, and how can we grow back stronger and more resilient from the pandemic? In this seminar\, Dr. Elena Bennett will discuss efforts to develop a suite of alternative\, plausible visions of futures that are socially and ecologically desirable by identifying elements of a Good Anthropocene that already exist and will show how the science of ecosystem services can be used to assess them. \nDr. Elena Bennett is Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Sustainability Science at McGill University. Her work focuses on the interactions among ecosystem services and how we can manage these interactions for multifunctional working landscapes. She is the leader of NSERC ResNet\, a Canada-wide network of interdisciplinary scholars working to improve environmental decision-making. Dr. Bennett was a Leopold Leadership Fellow (2012)\, a Trottier Public Policy Professor (2013-2014) and an NSERC EWR Steacie Fellow (2017 -2019). \n \nCliquez ici pour voir la présentation. \nDr. Elena Bennett\, l’Université McGill \nGraines d’un anthropocène prometteur \nCréer un avenir durable et juste exigera un changement majeur dans la manière dont les humains vivent et interagissent avec le système terrestre. Comment ce changement se produira et va évoluer reste vague aujourd’hui. De plus\, les visions d’un avenir durable diffèrent considérablement. Les visions prometteuses peuvent faire être un élément clé des transformations vers un avenir durable. Mais jusqu’à présent\, la communauté mondiale a identifié peu  defaçons de parvenir à un avenir plus souhaitable\, équitable et durable pour la société et l’environnement. Comment pouvons-nous penser à un avenir meilleur\, comment pouvons-nous le mesurer et comment pouvons-nous résister et être plus résilient face au context actuel tel que la pandémie? Dans ce séminaire\, Dr. Elena Bennett discutera des efforts en cours visant à développer des visions alternatives et plausibles pour un avenir socialement et écologiquement souhaitable en identifiant les éléments positifs existants de l’anthropocène. La présentation montrera comment la science des services écosystémiques peut être utilisée pour les évaluer. \nDr. Elena Bennett est professeure et titulaire de la chaire de recherche du Canada (niveau 1) en sciences de la durabilité à l’Université McGill. Son travail se concentre sur les interactions entre les services écosystémiques et sur la façon dont nous pouvons gérer ces interactions pour des paysages de travail multifonctionnels. Elle est la dirigeante du ResNet du CRSNG\, un réseau pancanadien de chercheurs interdisciplinaires travaillant à améliorer la prise de décisions en matière d’environnement. Titulaire des bourses du leadership Leopold (2012) et de la politique publique Trottier (2013-2014)\, Dr. Bennett est aussi lauréate d’une bourse commémorative E.W.R.
